Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. Then she joined NBC News Washington two years after that as general reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to Chief Correspondent to Congress. She was made the chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable reports over the years, such as the tax reforms, budget reforms, and an investigation into the Iran Contra scandal. She traveled frequently along with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
